The Wizard is a bearded old man with twinkling eyes. His real name is Oscar Zoroaster Diggs. He was born in Omaha in the United States. Nicknamed Oz, he ran away as a young man to join a circus and became a hot air balloonist.
One day, a very strong wind blew his balloon into Oz. The inhabitants saw the name "Oz" painted brightly on the side of his balloon and promptly proclaimed him their new Wizard!
He
built the Emerald City in the middle of the land of Oz,
hoping that the Wicked Witches would leave him alone and
therefore not discover he was a fake.
He was very happy when Dorothy, Shakey, Shiney and Scarey got rid of these witches and so he helps them discover their true potential!
